Croatian Organic Farmers Associations Alliance is the head organisation of Croatian organic farmers which are working together to protect our national treasure of soil, water and air by advocating for fair ecological policy, promoting organic agriculture and healthy diet.

It started in 2014. as an initiative and it was formally registered in 2017. It gathers 11 organic farmers organisations from all over Croatia and approximately 200 organic farmers as their members. At the moment it doesn’t have employees and it mostly work on volunteer basis.

Common goal that gathers organic farmers is sharing experience and supporting each others organisations as well as maintaining common vision of creating sustainable agriculture models, healthy diet and food sovereignty.  Initiative members have worked on supporting CSE models development in Croatia, promoting different innovative organic farming models, including biodynamic production by organizing education, fairs and different events. Main activity of alliance is advocacy and communication with decision makers on topics of agroecology, organic farming and seeds on national and international level. We are members of Committee for monitoring the implementation of rural development measures and Committee for genetic resources protection in Croatian Ministry of agriculture, Rural development network and international peasant farmers network European Coordination La Via Campesina.

In 2019. organisation started campaign that shows problem of insufficient organic seed production in Croatia and complete dependence on import of that very basic material in production. On the other hand we brought up problem of losing our traditional varieties and all the culture and agroecology practice connected to it. Project Diversity is sustainable aimed in connecting farmers that wants to register organic conservation varieties seed production and providing them with knowledge, connecting them with competent  institutions and following them on the first steps. Exploring tradition knowledge connected to conservation varieties as well as all the related ecological farmers models is necessary background of conservation variety registration process as well as assuring sustainable usage of these varieties connected with passing on tradition for the future generations. Advocacy process should follow these activities to assure respecting traditional models and agroecology practices in modern environment which is not always the case.
